Times of Misfortune is the flagship of our war themed tours!
We have started it back in 2002 and since then it has remained by far the most popular tour in Sarajevo. After more than a decade we have finally decided its a time for a makeover and now Times of Misfortune is an hour longer, features additional sites and is combination of walking tour and panorama drive. All of this for your maximum tour experience!
Start this insight into the Siege of Sarajevo by having a walking tour in the old part of the city and visit to Markale marketplace massacre site, see the place where the famous Sarajevo Cellist played and see few Sarajevo Roses.
Continue with a panorama drive along the Sniper Alley and take photos of modern skyscrapers just next to war torn buildings.
Arriving to the Tunnel museum you will start the sightseeing in the movie room, afterwards your guide will show you pictures of many sites and building you have seen so far and you will have the possibility to make a comparison of how much the city managed to change in the post war period.
Your guide is a survivor of the siege and will share with you some personal insight into life during the siege, you will hear few stories from everyday life in the city as well as some personal moments from these misfortunate times. However maybe you will will be interested to write down some recipes of war cuisine, as well as some fun stories or maybe some first crushes and kisses, these with touching descriptions of the things will make you understand what gave the citizens of this city the will to go on when life was at its most difficult.
Driving back to the old part of the city you will take the opportunity to give you time for questions in order to fully answer and try to make you understand this period as much as possible. Finally you will be taken to the Yellow fort also known as Cannon fort for an excellent view of the city and wrap up of the Siege positions, this will be a great place to take some of the best photograph on your trip.
Your last part of the tour will be to walk down from the fort, passing through one of the largest cemeteries from the last war, where are buried many heroes of the city and our country as well as our first president. You will also witness the Wall of Remembrance with names of those fallen for the freedom of generations to come.
